To all my dedicated voters, thank you for sharing with me the great legacy of Mahinda Rajapaksa

Sri Lanka is just weeks away from the General Election and while I have been busy in my campaigns in the Hambantota District and meeting the masses, I have also met some memorable people who have taught me lessons of humanity which I will cherish forever.

While every person I meet has a tale to tell, today I was fortunate to meet yet another person who had an amazing story.

He presented me with pictures of my father, which was taken years ago during his campaigns, which this gentleman had treasured and kept so safely. I was touched and delighted that following my campaigns, this gentleman walked up to me and showed me these pictures of my father in his earlier days, while in office, listening to the plight of the people.

The pictures, while touching my heart, also made me realize the great political journey my father has undertaken for this nation and her people, so much so that today, when senior voters come to me after my campaigns, they share the pictures and stories of Mahinda Rajapaksa from years ago – the humble and loyal Mahinda Rajapaksa who worked tirelessly for all citizens of this country for 50 years and continues to do so in all honesty and dedication.

Today as I carry out my campaigns daily before the August 5 elections, I have continue to learn so many valuable lessons, the most important being that a politician is nothing without the love and dedication of the citizens of this country and building their trust and working for them is not only a job but it is also a passion which should never be compromised.

Just as my father continues his political journey, I will learn from him and the senior voters who still carry forward the fond memories of Mahinda Rajapaksa and who come to me even today, years later just to remind me of my father and the great legacy he carries forward.
