Leading Sri Lanka towards a digital platform, SLPP becomes first political party to go all digital
Sri Lanka is a strategically located island whose potential is endless. Following the end of the island’s civil conflict in May 2009, former president Mahinda Rajapaksa had a vision to convert Sri Lanka into an international and digital hub which would be used as the center of South Asia.
Today, while Hon. Rajapaksa has achieved many a feat for this country, he continues his tireless efforts to guide Sri Lanka towards a path of prosperity and development, despite seated in the opposition benches. The vision he has for Sri Lanka remains steadfast as he is a leader who knows the true potential of his citizens. Sri Lanka, he says is a natural treasure, who can be the center of the world.
Keeping Sri Lanka’s true value in mind, under the guidance of Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was formed early last year, under the leadership of Hon. Basil Rajapaksa and Chairman, Professor G.L Peiris. The party had an aim and vision to lead Sri Lanka and its youth towards the global map of development and prosperity and contested the local government elections in February last year. The party worked hard and maintained realistic pledges, rather than being another political party who voiced pledges just to woo voters. The party was firm. They were here to make a change.
The SLPP, being a brand new party, swept the local government polls, indicating that people wanted the UNP government out due to their endless failures. It was the first time in Sri Lankan history that a new political entry had swept the polls in such a short time, which indicated the trust the people had in Hon. Basil Rajapaksa and his party. Since then, the SLPP has become a key entrant in Sri Lanka’s political arena and has worked effortlessly towards the development of the country at a regional level.
The party, under the leadership of Basil Rajapaksa, however is now ready to take the next step. For the first time in Sri Lanka, the SLPP has decided to go all digital by launching a mobile app through which the party members can canvass with the people so that party members can serve them better. A mobile is now a basic item which is owned by almost everyone and SLPP members are now just a button away if any issues need to be discussed.
This new step is part of Hon. Basil Rajapaksa’s vision of digitalizing the party so that Sri Lanka and its youth take the much needed next step of pushing Sri Lanka towards a digital platform. While many countries in the region have surged ahead in this sector, the SLPP is now determined to encourage more digital start ups for tge benefit of our youth and economy.
The SLPP also has a firm vision in the future to encourage and assist more digital businesses and also digitalize state institutions. This will not only open the field for people to learn more about this sector but it will also raise Sri Lanka’s literacy levels.
Through the newly launched mobile app, SLPP members in all districts, have been encouraged to go digital. It is not only time saving but it will also take Sri Lankan politicians to the next level, of getting themselves familiar with the digital economy.
After all, with more countries in the globe going all digital, it is time Sri Lanka also takes the next step to be in par with other countries.
As a young politician, I too have been involved in the SLPP’s latest endeavors and will continue to support Hon. Basil Rajapaksa to guide the party to work to fulfill the pledges of our citizens.
Sri Lanka has a long way to go, but remeber a smart Sri Lanka will be a developed Sri Lanka.
