The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society today inaugurated a scholarship program awarding 500 Scholarships to G.C.E. Advanced Level students at a function held at the Temple Trees.

Sri Lanka President´s son Namal Rajapaksa, the Chairperson of Tharunyata Hetak organization, was the chief guest at the occasion. Addressing the gathering he said that future leaders and professionals could be produced through helping the talented rural youth.
The first scholarship was awarded to S. Thamalani of Batticaloa by Mr. Namal Rajapaksa.
The program intends to financially support the children, to continue their education.

Red Cross Society Chairman Jagath Abeyinghe, Education Ministry Secretary Nimal Bandara, Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Chairman Predeep Kariyawasam, National Secretary Red Cross Society Nimal Kumara, Tharunyata Hetak General Secretary Lalith Piyum Perera, Gamanaguma Chairman Jaliya Gunasekara and several officials of Tharunyata Hetak and the Red Cross Society were also present.
