Era towards the countrys development has dawned Namal Rajapaksa

Several new MPs who have adorned Parliament after their victory at the general election also made their maiden speeches in Parliament today, participating in the Emergency debate.
Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa participating in the Emergency debate said they witnessed in the past few years how development was taken to the village via the Mahinda Chintana. It was after this improvement that he laid the foundation for his political career with the intention of doing a service to the people of the Hambantota District under the theme Let us develop our Village.
Mr. Rajapaksa noted that the era of the countrys journey towards development and its future has dawned. There were some persons who raised their voices on behalf of freedom. There were those who wrote on behalf of freedom and those who got onto the streets. However, what was needed today was also a political group which targets freedom. They do not need an era in which a certain political group attempts to achieve their own ends.
Mr. Rajapaksa emphasized that the victory achieved by making supreme sacrifices should be safeguarded as an honour to them. This freedom, he added, should be passed on to the next generation.

He was accompanied by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, External Affairs Minister Prof.G.L.Peiris, Secretary to the President Mr Lalith Weeratunga, Sajin De Vas Gunawardena MP, Attorney General Mohan Peiris, and his son Namal Rajapaksa MP.

The 7th session of the parliament in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka commenced today on the 22ndApril 2010. The elected members of all the political parties were present with announcement of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker,Parliament Committee Chairman and the Opposition Leader.
The newly elected youngest member of parliament was none other than Honurable Namal Rajapaksa. He commenced his journey officially to serve the people. In the jubilant victory he grabbed the highest percentage of votes being the number one in Hambanthota. The man who created history turns a another leaf in Sri Lankan history being the youngest Member of the parliament for well over 4 decades.The significance and the touching event is that another young man entered the political forum 4 decades ago.In the core essence he was a born leader who years later is ruling our mother land Hounourable Esteemed Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa. A Journey commences ,a never ending quest to serve the nation begins.Honourable Namal Rajapaksa undoubtedly will be the best youth leader motherland has ever presented.

“We greet the New Year with commensurate pride and satisfaction at our achievements in the past year when, together as a nation, we overcame the deadly challenge of terrorism, bringing to an end 27 years of mindless brutality, debilitating self-doubt, and unforeseen division among our people. With tremendous sacrifice Sri Lanka prevailed as one, as we have done repeatedly in our history. This transition into a New Year is an opportunity to again express our thanks on behalf of the nation to all service personnel who willingly made the supreme sacrifice and to the mothers, fathers, spouses and children of those heroes of our time.

Namal Rajapaksa was featured in a BBC article written by Charles Haviland which was published just prior to the election on bbc.co.uk. We publish excerpts of the article below:
By a huge banyan tree in the town of Tangalle, Namal Rajapaksa is meeting the people outside the family home.
A crowd clusters around the 23-year-old candidate and presidential son. Each person seems anxious to tell him their problem. They clutch school admission certificates and town council documents.
Namal is young but is already being groomed for great political things.
I’ve come to Namal for help in rebuilding our temple which was ruined by the tsunami,” says an orange-robed Buddhist monk. “Namal seems to do a lot for the people.”
A woman holds her young disabled boy in her arms. She needs funds to treat him.
“He can’t speak or walk. I felt Namal would help us because he loves kids. I’m confident he will help me.”
One armed soldier is on the parapet just above. Namal, however, listens to the people, promises action – and nuzzles the babies’ cheeks.

The people of Hambantota has spoken! They have elected Namal Rajapaksa with the highest number of preferential votes of over 147,000.
Namal has become the youngest member of parliament, feat achieved by his father, President Mahinda Rajapaksa. What is significant in Namal’s victory is that he is currently even younger than his father was, when he was first elected.
Namal would like to thank the voters of Hambantota, those who voted for UPFA and for him. Immaterial of who the voters have voted for, Namal would represent the whole population of Hambantota and would work tirelessly to fulfill his vision for Hambantota and its people!
Economy expands at the fastest pace in 5 qtrs.

The country’s economy expands at the fastest pace in five quarters as the Government stepped up spending on new roads and ports after the end of the war and the Gross Domestic Product rose 6.2 percent in the three months ending December 31 from a year earlier after gaining 4.2 percent in the previous quarter.
The President has already pledged to spend one Billion Dollars on ports, roads and power plants this year, the Statistics Department sources said.
A future leader with a friendly spirit, possessing good values is what comes to mind when meeting the dashing and smashing, young Namal Rajapaksa.
